British Columbia Ferry Services Inc., BC

Being know as a company that takes safety very seriously, BC Ferries’ was faced with replacing the original paging and alarm system, as the existing system was not suitable for reliable continuous performance. The system had to meet Transport Canada and SOLAS regulations for a fully redundant, self‐monitored paging and emergency announcement system. BC Ferries’ chose to use TOA’s VM‐2000 Series System Management Amplifier. Eighteen VM‐2240 Amplifiers were installed on the Northern Adventure with a nineteenth amplifier being used as back‐up. A total output of 4,320 watts is delivered to a combination of over 440 TOA H‐2 Interior Design Speakers and SC‐615T Paging Horns under speaker line supervision using the optional SV‐200 internal speaker line supervision card. There are ten zones throughout the vessel, each of which can be accessed from one of four RM‐200M S + RM‐210S Remote Microphone Stations, or by the EV‐200 optional internal Digital Message Repeaters. Standard ship alarm bells are played back using the EV‐20R Digital Message Repeaters.

Toronto Pearson International Airport

Toronto Pearson International Airport, Toronto, ON

Toronto Pearson International Airport is in the business of connecting - families, businesses and trade. Operated by Greater Toronto Airports Authority (GTAA), Toronto Pearson is Canada's largest airport and North America's second largest international passenger airport.

In 2016 Pearson had 44.3 million passengers. This busy airport is a hub for moving people and goods across the country, continent and globe. GTAA's focus is to grow Toronto Pearson's status as an international gateway, enhancing customer experiences, safety, security and the success of their partners. Having a paging system that is intelligible was necessary for the airport.

Existing paging system was not sufficient for many reasons. The airport has high ceilings, high ambient noise (escalators, moving sidewalks, luggage carousels), and often crowds of people.

An upgrade of the existing paging system was installed throughout the majority of Terminal 3. Many of TOA's F-122C Wide Dispersion Ceiling Speakers were installed. Toronto Pearson Airport now provided excellent sound coverage and intelligibility, thus enhancing the customer's experience, safety and security.

To improve communications and the audio, Tsawwassen Terminal installed over 100 of TOA Canada Corporation's SC Series Paging Horns strategically aimed to reduce reverberation (echo) and improve clarity.

Intercom failures and short comings lead to introduction and implementation of TOA's N-8000 IP Intercom System. The intercom system being used for terminal wide intercommunication. The system relys on several of TOA's 900 Series Amplifiers and Mixers for paging and security gate entry points.

The result of this TOA upgrade has provided the Tsawwassen Ferry Terminal with clear and intelligable sound, and has many local residents happy because they no longer hear the Tsawwassen Terminal's paging at their homes!
